Like all the other Chinese parents in the neighborhood, my parents foisted piano lessons on me when I was four years old. While I ultimately quit piano by middle school (all that two-handed coordination was a bit much for me), the lessons did succeed in giving me a lifelong appreciation of music, spurning forays into other musically-related endeavors.
